Sheringham Shoal Community Fund

 

Throughout the consenting process, Scira Offshore Energy stated that the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm project would bring community benefits beyond those expected as part of usual operations. Now in the construction phase, the first of those socio-economic benefits have been realised via a number of sponsorships and financial assistance to relevant projects. From 2010, there will be a formal mechanism for such assistance - the Sheringham Shoal Community Fund - a fund that will provide grants to North Norfolk community groups, including schools and NGOs, seeking financial assistance for projects or initiatives that meet key criteria.

 

Building up to an annual amount of Ł100,000 from 2012, the fund will provide grants for projects or initiatives that focus on renewable energy, marine environment and safety, sustainability, or education in these areas. The Fund will be managed by the Norfolk Community Foundation, with the involvement of community representatives as trustees. Applications are now open.

Sponsorships

 

As well as ongoing stakeholder communications via regular newsletter, meetings and open days, the project has initiated additional community support in the form of sponsorships. To date these sponsorships have included:

 

  • main sponsor of the North Norfolk District Council's Greenbuild sustainability event at Felbrigg Hall - northnorfolk.org/greenbuild
  • an agreement with The Mo to develop a Wind Farm Visitor and Education Centre on site
  • funding was provided to improve the Plumstead Village pond
  • funding was provided to improve the Coastwatch lookout at Wells-next-the-Sea
  • financial support for both the Wells-next-the-Sea Annual Carnival and Christmas Tide
  • funding to Wells Police for officers to undergo Marine Survival Training
