Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm exhibition generates great local interest
Sheringham, Norfolk (5th May 2005)
Over 350 visitors took the opportunity of finding out more about the planned Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, located 11 miles, (17 kilometres) off the North Norfolk coast.
The exhibition held at the Burlington Hotel, Sheringham last Thursday (28th April) was hosted by Scira Offshore Energy Limited. It included a wide range of relevant information about renewable energy and focused on site plans and statistics relating to the proposed Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm project. Computer generated images showed the visual impact of the wind farm on views from various points on the coastline.
Faced with the effects of global warming and the need to produce carbon free energy the UK government has set the goal of producing 10% of the country’s electricity from renewable sources by 2010. The Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm will play a significant part in contributing to this goal. Calculations indicate this offshore wind farm could generate enough electricity for at least 238,000 homes, enough to provide the needs of the entire North Norfolk coast twice over.
"We expected the Sheringham Shoal project to generate considerable interest from the people living along the North Norfolk coast and we were extremely pleased by the great number of people who came to visit our exhibition." Megan Arnold, Communications Manager said. "We held this exhibition to provide local organisations and local people with information about our proposed offshore wind farm and to answer their questions about this development. It also provided the Scira project team with the opportunity to understand local concerns and consult about the project."
Scira Offshore Energy Limited looks forward to engaging with the local and regional communities over the coming months and further announcements regarding future events will be posted on the company’s website www.scira.co.uk in due course.
