Scira Offshore Energy Continues Public Consultation Pledge
Sheringham, Norfolk [November 2005]: Scira Offshore Energy Limited, licensed to develop the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, has demonstrated an on-going commitment to keeping the local community informed on the progress of the project.
Scira has undertaken a number of presentations to local councils as well as issuing specific project literature and providing a dedicated website.
The Scira team most recently presented to the Sheringham Town Council, which followed previous presentations to both Blakeney and Beeston Regis Parish Councils. This latest presentation gave Scira an opportunity to talk about wind farms in general, and about the Sheringham Shoal site in particular.
“Overall there was very positive feed back from the Council,” commented Kerry Bradfield, Scira’s Communications Manager, “the Council members were interested in general information relating to offshore wind farms, environmental impact and prospective opportunities for employment and tourism.”
The presentation was followed by an extensive question and answer session, which lasted almost an hour. There were no major concerns raised relating to the proposed development.
Kerry Bradfield concluded, “We are very aware of the need to keep people informed of the project. Scira is therefore very grateful to the Sheringham Town Council for giving us the opportunity to up-date them on progress and address the concerns which have arisen since the project was first launched.”
As anticipated, the Sheringham Shoal project has generated considerable interest in the North Norfolk area and in particular within the local fishing community. Scira recently produced its first issue of the ‘Scira Fishing News’. The intention of this quarterly newsletter is to address any questions or concerns that may be expressed by local fishermen, as well as providing further information about any offshore surveys or studies that may take place.
The recently upgraded and user friendly Scira website – www.scira.co.uk – provides flexible access to the Sheringham Shoal project details and includes a comprehensive archive of press releases and project updates. It also provides general information regarding offshore wind energy, computer generated visualisations, animations and links to other relevant organisations.
Once complete, the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm will have the capacity to generate approximately 315MW of electricity, which will power approximately 238,000 homes without any carbon dioxide emissions.
