Conclusion assessment panel

The Assessment Panel of the Crown Estate concluded that the bid from Scira Offshore Energy was strong, the site well selected and the ability of the consortium to progress the development through to consent stage impressive.

Exclusive rights

An Agreement for Lease from the Crown Estate gives the consortium the right to exclusively develop an offshore wind farm at this location and start the necessary planning and environmental work to obtain planning permission, which is expected in 2006. Scira Offshore Energy intends to begin communications and dialogue with the relevant local community stakeholders, local authorities and other offshore developers at the earliest opportunity.

Mr. Dirk Berkhout, member of the board of Econcern, the parent company of Ecoventures, said: “We are very proud that we have been awarded this important tender. This is for us a large step forward in the developing European sustainable energy market. For the development of the wind farm we will make use of our project development company Evelop. They will be responsible for the development of the wind farm on behalf of Ecoventures. A wind farm that will produce sustainable energy for approximately a half million people”.
