Scira Prepares for the Submission of its Environmental Statement for Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm
Lowestoft, Suffolk: the final preparations are being made for the submission of the Environmental Statement (ES) for the proposed Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm. This crucial submission will report on the findings of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which Scira is close to finalising. Scira is expecting to submit its planning application (which includes the ES) to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTi) in late May of this year.
Scira Offshore Energy Limited (Scira) is continuing to keep the residents of the North Norfolk coastal communities fully informed on the progress of the project and is now arranging a second series of public exhibitions which are planned to take place in June. The public exhibitions will focus on highlighting the findings from the EIA, as well as providing additional information on the characteristics of the project. A list of dates and venues will be released in due course.
Meanwhile, Scira is also preparing a Non-Technical Summary of the findings from the EIA which will be sent to all community stakeholders, including the district and parish councils in the North Norfolk coastal strip. Interested parties will be able to view both the ES and the Non-Technical Summary at a number of locations throughout Norfolk.
The successful development of the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm will play a crucial role in meeting the UK Government’s own targets to produce 10% of the UK’s electricity from renewable energy by 2010. To help people to recognise the significance of the proposed Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, it has been estimated that the wind farm will provide enough clean, pollution free, ‘home grown’ energy for approximately 178,000 homes, almost twice the equivalent electricity required to supply the whole of the North Norfolk coast.
Kerry-Leigh Bradfield, Scira’s Communications Manager comments: “The public exhibitions are designed to explain the findings of the EIA to residents who are interested in the development. Each event will be publicised in the local press in the week prior to it taking place, and my colleagues and I are looking forward to meeting as many people as possible.”
