Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm Cable Route Public Exhibitions
Lowestoft, Suffolk (24th October 2006): Scira Offshore Energy Limited (Scira) opened the doors to the first of its scheduled Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm Cable Route Public Exhibitions today. This is the first public exhibition in a series of three which will take place in North Norfolk and Broadland this week. The exhibitions will focus on details of the onshore cable route which will bring the power generated by the offshore wind farm into the local electricity distribution network.
In its Environmental Statement (ES) which was submitted to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in May 2006, Scira proposed that the landfall site, where the cable from the offshore wind farm would come ashore, would be at the Muckleborough Collection, near Weybourne on the North Norfolk coast.
The wind farm would then require a 132kV grid connection between the new switch room facility proposed at Weybourne, and the local electricity distribution network. This new connection would feed electricity generated by the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm into the substation at the preferred connection point at Salle, near Cawston. In order to be less environmentally intrusive, it is proposed that a new underground cable connection would be installed, rather than the alternative option of installing new overhead lines.
The exhibitions will take place at:
Bodham Village Hall on Tuesday 24 October 2006 10am to 5pm
Corpusty & Saxthorpe Centre on Wednesday 25 October 2006 10am to 5pm
Cawston School on Thursday 26 October 2006 10am to 8pm
It is hoped that as many people as possible will come along to see the displays and discuss the management of the cable installation with the Scira Onshore Cable Route Team.

Kerry-Leigh Bradfield, Scira’s Communications Manager, sees these forthcoming exhibitions as an important part of the company’s commitment to
keeping the North Norfolk community fully informed about the progress and development of the project. When announcing these exhibition venues she said:
“We are anxious to minimise any potential disruption that the laying of the underground cable may cause to the villages and communities along its proposed route, and these events will help us identify any local issues and concerns.”
