Press release, August 30, 2007

30 August 2007: Scira today submitted two applications for planning permission under the Town and Country Planning (England and Wales) Act 1990 to build and operate an underground cable system between Weybourne and Salle (near Cawston) in Norfolk and a new substation at Salle.

Both the cable and new substation are needed to connect the proposed Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm to the national electricity network.

The first application covers the underground cable system and has been made to North Norfolk District Council and Broadland District Council.

The second application covers the new substation at Salle and has been made to Broadland District Council only.

The onshore grid connection has been the subject of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which covered both the underground cable system and the new substation. The results of this have been reported in a comprehensive Environmental Statement (ES), which has also been submitted to support the planning applications.

The ES document has been summarised in a Non Technical Summary, which is available to download here.

A detailed account of the assessment process is included in the full ES and details of how to view this can be found at the back of the Non Technical Summary document.

The two planning applications will be considered by the two district councils, in consultation with a range of stakeholders, before the applications are determined.
